  Miracal Maker

Did you know the brain and breath are so tightly linked that breathing patterns reflect our state of awareness. When we regulate the breath profoundly we actually modify our state of mind. The brain and nerves control respiration effecting our breathing, from the expansion and contracting of the lungs to carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in the bloodstream ultimately altering feed back to the brain altering EEG patterns and the conscious experience.
The practice of relaxation techniques, yoga postures, pranayama and meditation have significant effects on the body. What a better reason to practice yoga and breathing exercises in yoga called pranayama.
Nadi Sodhana or alternate nostral breathing: To begin take a deep inhale through the nose close off the right nostril and breath out through the left. Next take a deep in hale through that same left nostril and then close it off releasing the right passage and exhaling though the right nostril. Breath in through the right side and close it release the left nostril and breath out though it. Breath in through the left and continue this way for ten breaths. Alternate nostril breathing helps to balance the right and left brain dissolving stress and depression and cultivating a sense of oneness with the world and wellbeing. Try it for two weeks everyday in the morning and at night and email me with your results sally@inwardbalance.com.

  A new way of being

Sitting at my desk, a large low coffee table with my computer and printer set up on it, I am feeling so grateful to be sitting on the floor. I let go of my tall desk after a yoga retreat a few years ago when I realized how much time I spent sitting in a chair at my desk when on the computer. I want to feel good in my body and these days it is so clear to me that sitting on the floor to work on the computer or reclining on the floor, bed or sofa (thank God for lap tops) supports my feeling good far more than sitting in a traditional chairs for long periods of time.

I grew up traveling to ashrams around the world with my parents. We practiced yoga, meditation and chanting for hours and some times all night, this was my parents idea of a good time (is mine now too). From a young age I participated in lots of "floor sitting". It was quite embarrassing as a child to explain to my friends why in my house we had large pictures of strange Indian people around and why we sat on the floor singing songs in a language I did not understand. Today I can see the enormous value participating in this alternative life style has given to my life. The physical awareness this up brining has cultivated in me has allowed me to know when I need to make changes in my lifestyle to help myself feel good, even when the positive changes are strenuous or painful (it can be challenging to sit on the floor in the beginning).
Sitting in most chairs weakens the back and shortens the hamstrings having an effect on our over all sense of well being in the body. Chairs are unavoidable in our society, driving, eating out are a part of American life. You can practice sitting on the floor and letting go of the traditional chair any chance you can. It might even change your life.

  Purifying

With the approach of summer you may have noticed your body and mind beginning to adjust and adapt, transitioning to changes in weather, schedules, light. All living things are adjusting as the eminent change of the seasons are upon us.

As humans we know that life is always changing. Some times the unknown can be threatening to the minds ego whos job is to define and catagorize. Then resistance can come up even when the transition is well needed positive change. This resistance is the discomfort of change not the change its self . We resist not because we want what is bad for us but because we want what is good for us. When we are resisting we think that by hanging on to a past state we will be happy in the present. However hanging on or resisting means we forfeit the present moment, the only place where we can truly be happy.

The question I like to ask myself when I feel change approaching as I do now is; "how can I be graceful and happy as I experience change?"
A very ancient and proven method for dealing with the human body and mind in the midst of transition and change is to practice yoga and mediation. Our minds are oceans of changing thoughts and feelings and a consistent yoga practice helps to focus our awareness to the body and the unchanging source that breaths us, the source of our power.
During times of upheaval yoga and meditation are an amazingly effective remedy to ground and stabilize an anxious mind and body.
A very personal and profound example of how yoga and meditation assisted me in times of change was three years ago I suddenly lost a very significant person in my life. This loss brought about a tremendous amount of change, it shook the core of my reality, and yoga was the one thing that gave me a sense of peace and serenity as my world was turned upside down. Yoga soothed my mental and physical world. Yoga helped me stay open and receiving of the present moment so I could positively adapt and reorganize at a higher level after the unheavel...... it kept me in touch with that power that can never be eliminated or destroyed.

Most likely you are just noticing the change in the weather and day light and feeling a bit restless knowing things are changing again and not knowing what exactly that change will look like......... or how you will look in your bathing suite this summer.
Try waking up 2o min earlier than normal and sitting quietly in a peaceful place with your self for the next 2 weeks. Go to your local yoga studio a few days out of those weeks and take a yoga class. Remember yoga is for every body and every body can do yoga. Peace and happiness are your birthright so embrace it. Another way to bring your self in to the present is to do something new and go some where new have an adventure.

The photo above is of Igwazu waterfalls in Brazil. I was there last month...I cried in gratitude for the beauty of the falls.....magnificent!

  You are greater!

Here's one quote from Henry Ford I love:
"Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal."

I recently participated in a board braking exercise where I broke a board with my bear hand. It was so clear to me as I was preparing to put my hand though the one inch thick piece of a wood board that when I looked at the board I could not get past it. When I looked past it to where I wanted my hand to go I put my hand right through it. I did this exercise at a James Ray weekend event and James kept saying “your going to go through it like a piece of tissue paper" and I did.

So if getting where we want to go in life is all about how we think about and see our destination, where do you want to go and how easy will it be for you to get there? How focused can you stay on your destination? Who can help you?

As a teacher and practitioner of yoga it is a pleasure for me to focus on my breathing and the movement of my body and I love encouraging others to do the same. I find that yoga practice is a great metaphor for life and a healthy and positive way to be focused and present even when the mind tries to wander away from you goal.
If you are having trouble getting where you want to go try a more simple goal; focusing on your breathing. Maybe do few rounds of this exercises:
Sit comfortably allow your awareness to turn with in. Begin to be aware of your breathing. Notice the air filling your lungs and notice it evacuating. Breath through your nose allowing a stream of air to pass by the back of your throat, as you slightly constrict it making a sound of a whisper or the ocean as is passes. This is what we call in yoga Ujjayi breathing.
Continue this breath and now at the top of the inhale hold it for 10 seconds and release it slowly and then hold the exhale at the bottom for 10 seconds. Do this breath retention for ten rounds and notice when you are done what the quality of your energy is. You will feel focused, strong and powerful as you have just focused on you life force for the last few minutes. The ask your self what do I really want then stay focused on it and achieve it. You are greater than any obstacle!

To help your self focus on your highest value buy a set of Deep Peace Earrings.

  Joy Buzz!

Life is a series of little things or little moments....and these little things make a big difference. It is the little things we do to bring joy to our lives that make our lives happy and fulfilling. Joy is infectious so when we are happy we positively effect those around us.
Making time for something that brings us joy....... playing with our children, sitting down to read an enjoyable book, watching a sunset, choosing to be relaxed in a stressful situation. All of these little things add up to the quality of our lives.
Practicing yoga is a small thing that makes a huge positive difference to body and mind. Yoga helps discipline body and mind while bringing awareness to the quality of the breath, thoughts, and sensations of the body. This awareness allows us to be acutely aware and attentive to what we can do to bring us joy. With the simple practice of yogic breathing and exercises it is far easier to cruse though life with happiness and grace infecting others with our joy.
Giving or being of service to another is a little thing to create a big feeling of joy.
Create your joy buzz by directly helping the people of Uganda by donating to http://www.justlikemychild.com/ I personally know the founder of this highly effective organization, Vivian Glyck, and all donations are used to directly help these people in profound and simple ways like passing out mosquito nets to help reduce malaria and providing doctors and much more.

  Excellent Results!

My good friend Tara-Jenelle Walsch of soulebrate the most soulful greeting cards on the earth sent me this photo. Awesome!!!

Have you notices it is hip do what makes you happy? As humans we value more than anything happiness and freedom...... and hurray for that because it all begins within.
Fortunately we are past the age of TV dinners and the Sedan and in the age of organic raw food diets and the hybrid. The days of being unhappy today to have happiness some day off in the future is now proven to be ineffective. It is known today that there is no way to happiness happiness is the way and all successful people tell us it is true.

We have so much more support than ever before to create and maintain happiness and the good that we desire. Oprah had The Secret on her show last week twice! If you want your life to improve dramatically go to http://www.thesecret.tv/ and buy it! You will benefit far more than the pennies you spend to watch it.

As an avid surfing on looker, from the beach, and a small wave surfer.... I love to watch surf movies. I love to watch because I feel free, energized and happy living vicariously by watching men in next to nothing or tight suites using their bodies in daring ways to create joy and excitement. They dance across natures masterpiece as part of a mystical ensemble. I feel exhilarated to watch as if it were me braving mother nature for the thrill of the ride.

Recently I fell in love with the movie Blue Horizon where one of my new found heroes Dave 'Rasta' Rastovich was featured. His inherent possession of serenity and wisdom and his commitment to the joy of living was -stand out- inspiring.

Another reference to me of the dedicated individuals who are reaping the benefits from practicing yoga, meditation and communing with nature. My favorite part of the movie besides the surfing was the concept Rasta's father Dennis Rastaovich introduced of achieve goals; "think it, feel it, do it".

In the movie Rasta's dad translated the complex idea of programing our unconscious, the power that governs our body, in to simple terms. This simple concept of (think it, feel it, do it) is of high value because it is the way to create new successful habits and excellent results that support our happiness and allow the life we desire.

One of my favorite ways to talk to my unconscious and remind it to create the results I want to achieve is with simple visual reminders......Inward Balance Space Healers were created for this purpose. They remind the unconscious mind of your desired results. Want prosperity? Place a prosperity Space Healer where you can see it ever day and you will be amazed at how prosperous you will feel. You will find your self doing the things necessary to have the prosperity you desire. Think it feel it, do it......be it.

Thank you to all the lovely stores who carry Inward Balance products and making your self a raving success......and for making the world a better place.
