Purifying

With the approach of summer you may have noticed your body and mind
beginning to adjust and adapt, transitioning to changes in weather, schedules, light. All
living things are adjusting as the
eminent change of the seasons are upon us.
As humans we know that life is always changing. Some times the unknown can be threatening to the minds ego whos job is to define and catagorize. Then resistance can come up even when the transition is well needed positive change. This resistance is the discomfort of change not the change its self . We resist not because we want what is bad for us but
because we want what is good for us. When we are resisting we think that by hanging on to a past state we will be happy in the present. However hanging on or resisting means we
forfeit the present moment, the only place where we can
truly be happy.
The
question I like to ask myself when I feel change approaching as I do now is; "how can I be graceful and happy as I experience change?"
A very ancient and proven method for dealing with the human body and mind in the midst of transition and change is to practice yoga and mediation. Our minds are oceans of changing thoughts and feelings and a
consistent yoga practice helps to focus our
awareness to the body and the unchanging source that breaths us, the source of our power.
During times of
upheaval yoga and meditation are an amazingly effective remedy to ground and
stabilize an anxious mind and body.
A very personal and profound example of how yoga and meditation assisted me in times of change was three years ago I suddenly lost a very significant person in my life. This loss brought about a
tremendous amount of change, it shook the core of my reality, and yoga was the one thing that gave me a
sense of peace and serenity as my world was turned upside down. Yoga soothed my mental and physical world. Yoga helped me stay open and
receiving of the present moment so I could
positively adapt and reorganize at a higher level after the unheavel...... it kept me in touch with that power that can never be eliminated or destroyed.
Most
likely you are just noticing the change in the weather and day light and feeling a bit restless knowing things are changing again and not knowing what
exactly that change will look like......... or how you will look in your bathing suite this summer.
Try waking up 2o min earlier than normal and sitting quietly in a peaceful place with your self for the next 2 weeks. Go to your local yoga studio a few days out of
those weeks and take a yoga class.
Remember yoga is for every body and every body can do yoga. Peace and happiness are your birthright so embrace it. Another way to bring your self in to the present is to do something new and go some where new have an adventure.
